There are many, many, MANY resources online that are meant to help you become better at your craft, whether that craft is acting, writing for the stage, public speaking, dancing, orchestra and theatre management, directing, or any other facet of the world of stage performance. In our quest to become one of those resources, we have been scouring the web and our bookmarks for some of the more interesting and specific blogs and sites that we think may benefit both our general readers and those who rent our theatre. To that end, we present the Blog Profile series, where we will provide you with links to, impressions of, and information on some of those sites. Opinions and ideas are welcomed and encouraged!
For the first in this series, we profile a good read for theatre directors and all others involved in Arts Management:
This blog, managed by a mysterious theatre manager and one-time university professor named Joe, is focused on the thing that all those in the performance trade aspire to: putting butts in the seats so they can share their work and -- hopefully -- make some money. Joe posts somewhat erratically, but usually several times per week, and covers a wealth of information, including many of his own ideas on best practices for theatre and arts management.
Here's a sample of some of of Joe's posts:
Butts In the Seats is a part of the Inside The Arts blog collective that is a great resource in its own right, with channels that cover everything from arts and orchestra management to opera, classical music, and more.
If you're familiar with Butts In the Seats, let us know your thoughts. Have suggestions for other Arts Management blogs? Let us know that too! We are always interested in expanding our resource list.
For more examples of our quest to become one of the best theatre and performance resources out there, check out our tags Theatre Tips and Theatre in Life. Happy reading!
