Terry Fox Theatre was proud to be a part of Dancing with OUR Stars, a local event that not only raised money for Port Moody's Crossroads Hospice Society, but pitted some of our local celebs against one another in serious dance competition! What a night to remember! It was a great time for everyone concerned and raised a significant amount of money for Crossroads Hospice Society. In fact, it looks like we'll be doing it again next year!
This event showed just how much our community really cares! Crossroads Hospice is the cornerstone of hospice care, serving residents of Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and New Westminster.
Dancing with OUR Stars featured local celebrity contestants who really believed in the cause and who, for months, practiced their dance moves to classics like Benny Goodman, Shirley Bassey, Jennifer Lopez and the Black Eyed Peas. Picture Polly Krier, Glenn Pollock, Bev Moulds, Brent Asmundson, Karen Daniels, Greg Garrison, Steve Darling, Renee Chadwick, Ingmar Wilkens and Dee Parry wearing costumes to match the era of their songs, including poodle skirts, cowboy hats, and officer uniforms. And let's not forget the bling! Rhinestones, Rhinestones, Rhinestones!
The evening's program was emcee'd by Wesla Wong and Sophie Lui from Global BC Morning News, and the judges couldn't be more different: Chris Gallivan, a professional dancer for 29 years; Cori Caulfield, owner of Caulfield School of Dance; and Mike Forrest, owner of Forrest Marine and a Port Coquitlam Councellor.
The audience was treated to three other special performances that evening. The first was by vocalist Dave Adnams, winner of Virgin Radio 95.3FM's Best of BC in 2009. This was followed by dancer Ben Freemantle, performing a jazz solo to Michael Buble's Cry Me a River. Finally, as a treat for the evening that showed just how it should be done: Barbara Ferchuk and Brent Smith, the two-times undefeated Arthur Murray International Nine Dance Champions and owners of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Port Coquitlam. Arthur Murray generously donated their time and dancing expertise to make this event happen.
Professionals dancing with our contestants included Christy Consell, Johnny Lam, Barbara Lynn Copp, Brooke Foster, and Darek Stiller. And let's not forget Terry Fox Theatre's technical team: Theatre Manager, Gayle Manktelow, Sound Technician, Disa-Marie Cameron, and Lighting Designer, Tyler Martin. A special thanks goes out to all the community businesses that supported the event, and last but not least... the Dancing with OUR Stars organizing commitee: Dee Parry, Barbara Ferchuk, Brent Smith, Marilyn Sander, Daphne Gagnon, Irene Bouchard, and Linda Balzer.
Congratulations! $16,000 was raised for Crossroads Hospice in Port Moody!
See you all again next year!
