Terry Fox Theatre

We love kids in the performing arts at Terry Fox Theatre -- and theatre companies, theatre schools, and shows just for children seem to love us too! And why not? Community theatre is one of the best ways to help children build confidence and self-esteem, as well as develop leadership qualities, keep fit, and have a whole lot of serious fun! It's always a pleasure for us when a company or school chooses to display their talents on our stage, and this month's Featured Event -- which is actually comprised of three shows running from the end of April into the middle of May -- is no different.

The Lindbjerg Academy of Performing Arts is a school that has done great things with great kids in Vancouver theatre for several years now. Their students have performed with Theatre Under the Stars, the Royal City Musical Theatre, and Footlight Theatre, as well as at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition), the Variety Club Telethon, on Vancouver’s Breakfast Television and Morning Show, in commercials, animated movies, and more. They've even performed with Donny Osmond (yes, that Donny Osmond) when he was in Vancouver with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. If that weren't enough, the Lindbjerg Academy kids also star in their own productions -- everything from Annie to the Wizard of Oz, Anne of Green Gables, Cinderella, and other great shows -- which they have performed at community theatres in and around the Tri-Cities area, including our own.

At the end of April -- the 28th, to be exact -- Lindbjerg Academy returns to Terry Fox Theatre with a production of Bye Bye Birdie, a musical that brings the 13-19 year old cast of their Rising Stars Advanced class back to the 50's. The play is loosely based on Elvis Presley being drafted into the army, and is all about the sort of high energy song and dance that the whole family will love! In the first week/weekend of May, including a Mother's Day show, Lindbjerg's 5-8 year old Mini-Stars Advanced and 12-15 year old Rising Stars perform a double feature of cuteness: a specialized adaptation of Disney's version of The Jungle Book , as well as a musical adaptation of the Ugly Duckling, entitled Honk Jr. Find out more about dates and tickets here.

Honk Jr. returns again from May 12th-15th, this time with the 5-8 year old Mini-Stars and the 9-12 year old Youngstars. Keeping with the double feature and Disney themes, the group also performs a fun adaptation of the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty. Find out more about dates and tickets here.
