The theatre stage is one of the single most important elements of a professional performing arts venue next to the performers themselves.
So when Port Coquitlam Theatre Society, who manages the Terry Fox Theatre, was advised that the original stage floor (constructed in 1999) had outlived its best days, they didn’t hesitate to replace the old stage with a superior product -- for the show must go on!
Completion of a brand-new stage floor for Terry Fox Theatre was completed in July 2010. Made from a wonderful product used in world class theatres, Hardboard is the perfect stage flooring for Terry Fox Theatre’s local and travelling performers: smooth for the barefoot performance with limited slippage to the soles of ballet slippers. The stage is sprung to absorb sound and movement and tempered just enough for rebound from significant contact with moving equipment and set pieces.
A typical night at the theatre
...The audience is seated, the lights dim and the music rises and then falls silent. The curtains softly part to behold a single dancer, poised in a pool of light amidst the darkness of a bare stage. The audience collectively draws in their breath and the show begins…
This leaves only one of two things left to do: either take to the stage to experience the magic yourself -- or sit back and be swept away by a truly inspired performance.
