Sunday Coffee Concerts Are Back at Terry Fox Theatre

Coffee Concert Series Terry Fox Theatre Port CoquitlamStarting at the end of this month and running every other Sunday until the end of March, Terry Fox Theatre plays host to some of the best performances you'll find in Port Coquitlam or the surrounding area -- and each one costs $10 or less!

Presented by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Port Coquitlam, the line-up this year features everything from country and classical, to flamenco and gospel. Some of the acts are well known performers in the Lower Mainland, and we even have former professional hockey player who's hit the Top 20 charts.

The Sunday Coffee Concerts were created to bring inspiring performances to the Tri-Cities area, with the goal in mind of exposing the community to different styles of music and performances. It's also a fantastic vehicle for artists, and has become something of a tradition in PoCo.

Chad Brownlee -- the former hockey player spoken of above -- takes the stage on January 30th. Chad's song "The Hero I See" (about Anthony Ford, a young boy who lost his battle with leukemia), got him nominated for the NCAA Hockey Humanitarian Award and has raised thousands for the Anthony Ford Foundation, which helps underprivileged kids get a chance to play hockey. Since becoming a professional musician, he has hit the Top 20 Country charts in Canada with his song "The Best That I Can (Superhero)" and has made the short list for Rising Star at the 2010 CCMA Awards. His self-titled debut album hit the stores on August 31st, 2010.

Chad is just the start of the Coffee Concert series, and Terry Fox Theatre and Port Coquitlam are proud to have him! In the following weeks, we will be equally pleased to house performances by the Felice Women's Choir, The Gospel Experience, Karen Flamenco (Romeo and Juliet to flamenco? Nice!), and Vancouver's Outreach Community (VOC) Sweet Soul Gospel Choir. If you've never seen Checo Tohomaso -- who has performed with the likes of Marvin Gaye, The Commodores, and Lionel Ritchie -- and his choir, make sure you check out the March 27th show. It'll be a treat and a half, you can bet!
